As part of Slough Estates' £20m regeneration programme, the former RAF base at Farnborough has undergone a major restoration. For decades the site has been covered by the Official Secrets Act and hidden from public gaze. With the development of a new Grade 1 Listed heritage centre, offices, studio workshops and a cafe bar, these historic aviation buildings will now be open to the public for the first time.
The RAE was the location of many aeronautical and technical innovations that included engine design, performance testing and plane crash investigations. The historic wind tunnels at the site will now be restored externally for commercial use.
